Finnish Air War enfin disponible !!

Message par RAF_Dumoulin »

Hello,

Apres des années d'attente ... cette campagne est enfin disponible.
Annoncement original .. tel que posté sur forums SimhQ et Frugals.

Finnish Air War released!

Finnish Air War (FAW) contains a comprehensive set of files which enable you to simulate, with a fair degree of realism, the air war over Finland in 1939-1940 and 1941-1944, using Microprose's classic flight-simulator, European Air War.

FAW can be played either in single missions, or by using a specially written campaign.

FAW is a Community project, put together by the following people:

"vonOben" - Campaign files, terrain, world and target files, ground objects, skin and 3dz editing, put together and tested the package, project leader.
"Illu" - Historic research, some ground and aircraft models.
"Knug" - Graphical User Interface.
"Karel II" - Aircraft models and textures.
"Freddy B" - Aircraft models and textures.
"Edward" - Aircraft textures.
"Knegel" - Flight models, damage models, loadout files.
"Mr Jelly" - FAW Manager program and misc editors.
"Neira" - Movies.
"Pobs" - Some ground models.

A lot of other people have contributed and they are all mentioned in the readme file.
If you find any bugs please make note of as many circumstances as possible (date, what type of plane was flown, what types of additional planes appeared and so on.
Thanks in advance!

Finnish Air War has been worked at for six years and we have done the best we can to create a new world that works and can be built on subsequently. Geg started this project in the autumn of 2002, but had little time and I took over in late 2002.
Because of the long development time many of the original team members has left and the last years it has been mostly a one man job.

Some screen shots from the campaign testing:

Installation
FAW is available as a self-extracting archive and requires a basic 1.26e patched installation of European Air War to extract into. If you want to save disk space you can make a separate small installation (only 2MB) instead and change the debug patch in eaw.ini to link to the main EAW installation. Like this:
Debug Path=G:\European Air War\Files\

Important Note:
FAW contains cdf fils!
If you install to your main EAW installation the default cdf files will be over written!

EAW 1.28:
FAW was developed before EAW 1.28 was released and is not yet fully compatible with it.
We decided to release FAW as it is and update it with a patch for 1.28 when the new EAW 1.28a is released and a FAW FM is available for EAW 1.28.
All of the FAW cdf files are based on 1.28 and does work with it. The FM is however not made for 1.28 and there are also a few ground objects that are not compatible with 1.28.

The FAW Manager is not compatible with 1.28 online play and should not be used for that!

FAW can be downloaded from the FAW page on my site, the download is 180MB.

Have fun!

Here are some additional info:

I have an Old Voodoo 5500 card myself and because of all the high-res planes and high-res ground objects I have never been able to run FAW on highest terrain setting. I thought that was because of my old video card so I didn’t mention that in the readme file.
So I always use a lower terrain setting to lower the texture load. The terrains include have high res tiles also for the LR tiles so the look in game will be the same.

Start FAW, select “Configure game”, “Graphics” and set “Terrain” to Medium.

About the Music system.

Finnish Music is already selected and therefore is the Finnish Music folder renamed Music, by the FAW Manager so they can be used in game. When I packed FAW up I had an empty “No Music” folder and because of that this folder was never included in the package by the program I used packing the files.
So after extracting the files create a new “No Music” folder and when you start the “FAW Manager” you will see Finnish Music already selected.

You can open the FM.ini to check the folders and it should look like this if you haven’t changed anything:

Jel's FAW file manager
Finnish Music
Russian Music
No Music

Cheers
